Matthew Peters

ABMC Managing Director / Producer / Cellist

For over 30 years, Matthew Peters has been leaving his mark, both as a performer and manager, in some of the most prestigious concert halls across North America and Europe.  By the age of 14 he had already performed in 7 countries, and a few years later he received a Talent Grant to study at Northwestern University with Hans Jørgen Jensen (alternating his Summers studying with Mr. Jensen at the Meadowmount School of Music and studying privately with Peter Howard, then-Principal Cellist of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra).  He has also performed in masterclasses for Paul Katz (Cleveland Quartet) and Menahem Pressler (Beaux Arts Trio).

 

Before receiving his degree in Cello Performance, Matthew became the youngest Producer of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra radio broadcasts in their history.  Alongside multiple Grammy-winning Engineer Chris Willis, he advised such artists as Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Franz Welser-Möst, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Oliver Knussen, Christoph Eschenbach, Mark Wigglesworth, Yo-Yo Ma, Renée Fleming, Lynn Harrell, Gidon Kremer, Maxim Vengerov, Peter Serkin, Gil Shaham, and many more.  A few years later, in New York, Matthew was named the Midwest & West Coast booking agent for Columbia Artists Management’s world-renowned soloist roster, and was the primary contact for over 150 orchestras (including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Houston Symphony, Detroit Symphony, etc).

 

Since moving to the UK, Matthew has project managed and worked with such highly acclaimed solo artists as Raphael Wallfisch, Emma JohnsonClare HammondAlexander Sitkovetsky, Harriet Mackenzie, April Fredrick, Mikhail KorzhevMatthew Sharp, James Brawn; composers Robert Saxton, Donald Fraser, David Matthews, Philip Sawyers, Paul Patterson, Deborah Pritchard, Nimrod Borenstein, Geoffrey Gordon; labels Nimbus, Avie, Toccata, Signum, Somm, Resonus; and producers Michael HaasSimon Fox-Gal, Adam Binks.  Approached by the English Symphony Orchestra to raise artistic and professional standards of the organisation, their Board of Directors unanimously appointed Matthew as General Manager to ensure ABMC's efforts to deliver transformational change over a 3-year period.

 

Matthew now focuses his time as the Managing Director of ABMC Productions, Founder & Teacher of the Peters Cello Studio, and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Birmingham-based professional dance company, Autin Dance Theatre.
